As most of us have observed in the past few years, we have begun to emerge as intermediaries between education, practice and the new technologies. We have begun to provide new computational research orientations to the generation of knowledge about design and design&planning process. Over and above acting as a medium of access to tools, we have begun to function in new roles in our schools as strengthening the presence of theories and the intellectual content of design and planning education. The emergence of new media and techniques are further influencing our function as interpreters of the conceptual implications of change and development. This is the challenge of ECAADE Vienna 97. We believe that it will be an exhilarating experience.
